Birth registrations and declarations now in Darwen

Following a successful 12 months at Little Harwood Family Hub, birth registrations and declarations are now available in Darwen.

Parents can register births at Family Hub Darwen after requesting the service for local families in the area.

BwD has four family hubs in Darwen, Livesey, Little Harwood and Shadsworth. The aim of the four Best Start Family Hub is for a ‘one stop shop’ service.

Councillor Julie Gunn, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education said:

“We’re thrilled to announce that in response to your requests, birth registrations and declarations are available right in your community! This is exciting news for parents in Blackburn with Darwen.

“We know that Little Harwood has been a great success, and our parents have asked for the same service in Darwen. We’ve listened and made sure this is more convenient for local families in the area.”

How to book an appointment

To register a birth that occurred in Blackburn with Darwen or declare a birth that took place outside the area, call the Family Hubs on 01254 585000 and press birth registration, if you have any questions about the registration process then please email registration.officers@blackburn.gov.uk with your name and your child’s place and date of birth, with a brief outline of your query.

Sessions take place every Wednesday (excluding public holidays), from 10am to 2:15pm .

Fees

  • Birth registration and declaration: Free  
  • Birth certificate (Blackburn with Darwen birth ): £12.50 per copy
  • Birth certificate (Birth took place outside Blackburn with Darwen): £12.50 per copy – Contact the birth district after your appointment to order the certificate

What to bring to your appointment

You must bring:

  • red book (Personal Child Health Record)  
  • passport, utility bill, driving licence, marriage or civil partnership certificate for both parents

Before signing the documentation, you will be asked to check the details recorded to confirm accuracy.

After registration corrections can only be made on payment of a statutory fee of £83 or £99, depending on the error.
