Community Genetics Team

Information about genetic childhood conditions and illnesses and how they may affect your child now, or their children in the future

The Community Genetics Team help with understanding genetics in the community. Genes provide your body with instructions, for example, what colour your hair will be, how your heart will function and how tall you will grow to be.

Sometimes the genes in our body are altered or changed which can give rise to a genetic condition. Families from all communities can be affected by genetic conditions. It's not the fault of the parents - gene mutations occur by chance.

If you care for children or adults who have multiple complex needs because of a genetic condition, you might not know about the help available to you.

The Community Genetic team visits families in their homes to provide information and offer support.
