Located at the heart of four local communities, each hub, along with its connected spoke children’s centre, provides families with a welcoming and accessible ‘one-stop shop’ for comprehensive early years support.
In a further boost to these vital services, Blackburn with Darwen is set to receive £1,131,800 in funding through the Family Hubs and Start for Life programme, as part of a £126 million national investment to support families.
This funding ensures continued access to essential services, reaffirming the council’s commitment to helping families thrive.
Councillor Julie Gunn, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education said:
“We are delighted to receive the new funding to further strengthen our family services. Children’s early years are crucial to their development, health and life chances.
Our hubs are at the forefront of supporting the 1,001 critical days—the vital early period in a child’s life—by delivering integrated services that boost parental well-being, strengthen family relationships, and promote healthy child development.
From pregnancy support and infant feeding advice to parenting classes, families can access tailored guidance to give their children the very best start in life.”
The BWD Family Hubs in Little Harwood, Darwen, Livesey and Shadsworth offer support through pregnancy and early childhood so that they can improve long term outcomes for children.
